What is the feed-in tariff?
Feed-in tariffs are payments made to homeowners and businesses for the renewable electricity they generate.
The Tariffs give three financial benefits:
- A payment for all the electricity you produce, even if you use it yourself
- Additional bonus payments for electricity you export into the grid
- A reduction on your standard electricity bill, from using energy you produce yourself
These Tariffs were introduced to enable the everyday person the chance to have Solar PV panels installed and get rewarded for there efforts. The feed-in tariff is arranged in sections to fairly distribute the income for example the maximum a house should have fitted is about 3.68KW, which in physical terms is around 16 PV Panels. The Tariff drops down a pay scale after 4KW, below this band you would receive 14.38p for every KWh of energy generated for the next 20 years. In money terms you would roughly get a cheque for around £500 a year and a huge saving on your electricity bill.
